Fall Beauty Preview: First Look at Best In Show!

If you're a beauty junkie like I am, you probably love trying out the latest beauty tips and products.  My make up vanity is piled high with new beauty products to try and even though we still need our tinted moisturizer and waterproof mascara, it is always fun to start experimenting with the beauty trends that are on the horizon.  Think lips that are luscious in oxblood red, skin that is matte like porcelain, and perfectly lined cat eyes.  Let's peruse the HSN beauty counter and take a peek at the top beauty trends coming this fall!

Matte Skin - The essential look for Fall's bold Lips, Nails and Eyes

How do you get a flawless, shine-free face?  You need a base before the base!  Lancome La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer has light diffusers to provide a seemingly flawless face and was specifically designed by makeup artists to help you create a canvas for your masterpiece.  Matte makeup doesn't have to mean dry!  If you want the complexion of an angel, try Signature Club A 8 Butter Broad Spectrum SPF 25 Makeup which does it all!  From jojoba, to avocado, to cocoa, it provides the moisture of eight different butters plus it contains SPF!  Top off your evened out skin tone with Signature Club A Color and Contour Ultra Creamy Translucent Powders.  Sometimes we can fall into the trap of cakey makeup from constantly reapplying powder throughout the day while trying to remain matte.  We have a solution!  Boscia Fashionably Matte Blotting Linens Set keep you fashionably matte and your makeup clean and flawless!

Feline Eyes - Get ready to amp up the volume on your eyeliner this fall

You'll be the cat's meow this fall with the ever-sexy cat eye!  Grab a mirror and a liquid liner, like Lancome Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner.  Looking down into a mirror, draw a thin (or thick if you want some pow!) line across your upper lash line, then flick up at outer corner. Take a eye pencil, such as Signature Club A by Adrienne Easy to Use Eye Pencil, to smudge the outer half of your eye and meet the top line and voila! Or should we say "Meow"?

Lips and nails:  Deep reds and dirty nudes

Poppy Red

Poppy Red looks very fresh this Fall when worn with simple eye makeup.  Try Deborah Lippmann Love Notes Lip and Nail Duet with matte skin and a cat eye for a jaw dropping, on trend look!

Baroque was hott on the runways as was oxblood color leathers.  Allow your sultry side to make an appearance this fall with Deborah Lipmmann Midnight Confessions Lip and Nail Duet which looks exceptional with this season's burnt orange eyeshadow.

Sound the alarms its getting smoky!  With a super smoky eye, a nude lip is the only answer and this season and Deborah Lippmann "I'm Every Woman" Lipstick is the perfect choice for a nude pout.  For an ultra chic matching nail, try on Deborah Lippmann "Careless Whisper" Nail Polish for a fabulous finger tip finish.

Slept In Hair - Bed Head is baaaack!

Grunge Waves

If bedhead is completely disheveled, then slept-in hair in somewhere in between.  Use the Corioliss Straight 2 Curl Titanium Styling Iron to bend hair into loose waves, then rough your hair up a bit with your fingers, and finally mist it with David Evangelista HD Hold Brushable Hold & Finish Hairspray to give it a look that is completely sexy and, this season, decidedly glamorous.

Deconstructed Bun

How do you juxtapose your beauty with all of the opulence on the runways?  With the deconstructed bun.  First, use Taya Boar Bristle Wooden Paddle Brush to smooth your hair back into a low pony, yet only pull hair halfway through on the last twist of your elastic.  Take extra strangles of hair that remain and twist them around the base of your pony, using bobby pins to secure, but letting some hair stick out here and there.  Finally, mist your hair with Sally Hershberger Salon Smooth Fix Styling Spray which gives hair hold without crunch for that perfectly mussed look!

Get into the excitement of the new season ahead by trying these beauty trends ahead of time to see what you think.  Who knows?  You may find your new signature look!

The Most Flattering Hairstyles for Women Over 40

Boy, what a difference a hairstyle can make.   A couple years ago I got a haircut that was a hair "don't" instead of "do".  In the first photo my color was too dark and the short poufy style wasn't flattering on me.  The photo next to it shows the difference when I grew it an inch longer and added highlights - much better.  The third photo is how I wear my hair now - shoulder grazing with highlights around my face....what a difference!  If you've been thinking about getting a new do, I picked some flattering hairstyles for woman over 40.  If you're stuck in a hair rut (if you haven't changed your hair style in over 5 years) it might be time to try something new...

Super short: Halle Barry & Lisa Rinna

If you're looking to perk up your face with easy, low maintenance hair, you can go super short and get a pixie like Hallie's for a look that puts your beautiful face on display. Her cut is boyish, modern and easy care.   You could also go short with a modern shag that is a tad bit longer and styled away from the face like Lisa's.  Her choppy layers really flatter her bone structure.  Short cuts like these call for  Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Pudding - perfect for keeping your short tyle in place.

Short Bob: Cameron Diaz & Diane Sawyer

A short bob defies age!  This is a great cut for those with fine hair as there aren't as many layers so the hair looks fuller.  Short bobs are great worn toussled for a sexy bed head look like Cameron's or soft and elegant like Diane's (stunning at age 67).  As with any good hair cut, keeping your hair in tip top shape is key.  GLOSS Moderne Luxury Hair Care 4-Piece Set will help transform your hair into a healthy, shiny mane with its sulfate-free formula that is infused with keratin to make your hair reflect how beautiful you feel!

Long Bob with Bangs: Michelle Obama & Heidi Klum

Bangs or Botox?  This is a question many women ask themselves when they hit a certain age.  I choose bangs! Many of you have heard me say I'm afraid of needles so injectables aren't an option for me. This hair cut has movement and face framing fringe that can be styled in several different ways.  My best styling tip:  Use Amika Clip-Free Curling Iron with Travel Set for your curls  and the Amika Obliphica Ceramic Styler with Travel Case for your sleek style!  Whether you wear your hair piecey like Michelle's or sleek like Heidi's - forget the botox and try an ultra flattering Bob with bangs!

Shoulder Grazer with Side Bang: Tina Fey & Kate Capshaw

To flatter your bone structure and to give your hair some texture, try a shoulder grazing length with a side sweep.  This style can be loose and free like Tina's or more seductive like Kate's!  Since faces are not completely symmetrical, a side swept bang is very flattering on pretty much everyone!  David Evangelista Styling Duo has a leave-in conditioner to detangle knots and a texturizing cream to add texture and volume to your do!

Long & Straight: Jennifer Aniston & Christie Brinkley

Hair tends to thin as we age.  If you have full, healthy hair - don't be afraid to flaunt it!  Long, straight, sleek, and shiny are all adjectives for dream hair.  Jennifer and Christie (Christie Brinkley is age 59 - wow!!!) prove that you can still look incredible with longer lengths past forty,  The key to wearing your hair long and straight is having your hair in tip top condition.  To get this look, try Salon by Sally Hershberger Keratin Fix which infuses your hair with keratin to keep in strong, super shiny, and feeling like pure silk!

Long, Layered & Wavy: Jaclyn Smith & Nicole Kidman

When you see long, layered, and wavy hair your mind can immediately think "goddess"!  Long waves and highlights are very flattering and at age 67, Jaclyn Smith still looks amazing.   She curls hair away from her face to open it up for a soft, youthful look.  Nicole embraces her natural curls with loose waves that start by her cheekbones.  The key is to this look is to have healthy, strong hair.  Start your beauty routine from the inside out with Andrew Lessman Healthy, Hair, Skin & Nails. These vitamins help boost your hair and nail growth and make your skin glow - what more can a girl ask for?

So are you feeling inspired to try something new?  What hair "Do" is right for you?

Suitcases and Sunglasses - Things I don't leave home without!

Many of you know I love to travel and I'm on the go a lot.  I was thinking the other day when packing for a weekend getaway that no matter where I'm headed, there are certain things that I always take with me. Depending on the time of year and my destination, my wardrobe choices ususally change (with the exception of jeans, a lightweight sweater, comfortable shoes and a great scarf - these go with me everywhere).  But then there are those certain things that I don't leave home without - my travel Must Haves.  I wanted to share a list of a few things that I ALWAYS have in my carry on (these days I usually don't check my bags).  Take a look at a few of my travel essentials below and let me know what's on your "to go" list...

Staying Healthy with Immune Boosters

The first thing I pack when I'm heading out of town is my vitamins!  I like to put them in small travel cases or zip lock bags and I measure the amount I'll need of each vitamin for every day of my trip.  A good multi vitamin is Andrew Lessman Womans Complete - each packet is chock full of vitamins and nutrients to help you stay healthy while you're away.  For a great immune system boost I always travel with a product called Cyclone Cider (I buy this at our health food store).  It's apple cider vinegar with a blend of spices and nutrients that provides tons of great health benefits - it has a convenient dropper so it's easy to take (note:  it's spicy and has a little "heat").  I also keep Vitamin C Emergen-C packets with me when I'm on the go - I pour these into a bottles of water for a super charged dose of Vitamin C.   Another thing you'll always find in my travel bag are hand sanitary wipes - we encounter more germs when we travel and wipes always come in handy!

Organization is Key

Having the right luggage can make all the difference when traveling.  I try not to check my luggage so I need good carry on pieces and both Joy Mangano and Samantha Brown on HSN have many excellent choices.  One set, for example, is  Samantha Brown 21" Upright and Doctors Tote.  These two pieces will help keep you organized and looking stylish.  Joy Mangano Better Beauty Case in Satin Stripe are a travelers dream!  I keep make up, toiletries and vitamins in these neat roll up cases - I keep mine full and ready to go do I don't have to repack for every trip.

Look Polished while you're away

When it comes to keeping my clothes looking wrinkle free, the My Little Steamer Go Mini Hand Steamer by Joy Mangano is the perfect travel companion.  It's small, compact and works like a dream for getting rid of wrinkles.  Because my curly hair has a mind of it's own, I don't leave home without my Amika Obliphica Ceramic Styler with Traveler Case.  This one styler helps to tame my unruly tresses whether I'm on the beach on in the mountains.  For make up - there a a few key items I keep in my carry on:  Too Faced Air-Buffed BB Creme Makeup SPF - 20 - this non spill all in one foundation is perfect for quick touch ups and is long wearing so you'll look fresh all day.  Because it's not easy to brush your teeth when on a plane or long car trip, I like to pack  IntelliWHITE Pout and Polish & Breath Gel Duo.  This duo will brush and whiten your teeth and freshen your breath at the same time.  Finally, you'll always find hand lotion and lip gloss in my travel bag - This Korres All About the Lips 6-Piece Deluxe Set has several pretty colors to choose from so you can take a couple with you and still have a plenty to spare!

These are a few of my key travel essentials - How about yours?  What are the items you don't leave home without?

Colleen's Favorite Summer Beauty Picks

it's Summer Host Pick time on HSN!  For many months HSN Show Hosts work with our buying team to bring you our favorite products of the season.  I'll be sharing 4 hours of my top summer picks with you starting with a full hour of beauty products Thursday night at 11:00 ET for our Host Pick Kickoff!  I absolutely LOVE these products...Check out what's at the top of my list and let me know what's on yours!

Korres Smooth as Butter 6-piece Collection

All the way from Athens, Greece, Korres brings us nature's goodness in the most luxurious body butters and lip glosses.  I've chosen a gorgeous bouquet of my favorite Korres scents:  Jasmine, Apple Blossom and Guava for the body and Mango, Guava and Jasmine for your lips.  I wont be leaving home without my body butter and lip gloss from Korres this summer - Feel like a Greek Goddess with my faves from Korres.

Lancome Focus on Eyes 3-piece Set

Let me introduce my Triple Threat for Eyes!  I'm a huge fan of Lancome's Genefique Face Serium and the newest addition to my beauty arsenal Is Lancome's Light Pearl for the eyes.  This is my favorite all in one eye serium - it smooths lines and wrinkles, brightens the eye area and diminishes puffiness (on extra hot days keep it in the refrigerator for extra "pow" for depuffing)!  For my host pick we are adding (for free!) Hynose Doll Mascara (amazing!) and Le Crayon eyeliner in "must have" Black (Tip - only line your eyes 3/4 of the way around - stop lining at the middle of your bottom lash to open up your eyes).  This trio and a great pair of shades is all you need for gorgeous summer peepers!

Boscia B.B. Cream & B.B. Bronzer Duo

I'm soooo excited to share this dynamic duo from Boscia for my Host Picks!  This BB Cream is the ultimate multi tasker and my go-to for summer.  It gives beautiful, luminous coverage, has broad band SPF 27, and evens and firms the skin's appearance.  The bronzer also has the broad spectrum SPF - and is long wearing, self adjusting and will give your skin a luminous sun kissed glow!!

YBF Eyebrow Pencil

For those of you that are eyebrow challenged like I am - the YBF Eyebrow Pencil will be your new BFF!  It's a Customer Top Favorite as it defines, fills in, and flatters your brows with it's unique color and formula that works for all hair colors.  This is one of my "desert island" products - for just $10 for my Host Pick Show only, it's time to stock up on everyone's favorite eyebrow pencil!

TRUHair by Chelsea Scott Extreme Volume Holding Spray

Finally, when it comes to keeping your tresses looking fab this summer (and all year long) I hope you'll try my favorite hair spray by TRUHair!  I'm obsessed with this hair spray because it does it all!  It gives the hair a lightweight, brushable hold with no flaking and no dullness.  It also gives my hair volume without looking "helmety" and keeps my hair manageable (even in our Florida humidity!).  it's a buy one get one free offer for Host Pick - You know I'll be stocking up for sure!

These are some of my favorite beauty host products for summer - Hope you can tune in for all of my picks from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM starting June 13th and 10 PM to 12AM on June 15th...Can't wait to share all my picks with you!  What's on your summer beauty "must have" list?

Colleen's Summer Beauty Switcheroo!

Summer weather means it's time to pull the old switcheroo in our make up drawers and cosmetic bags.  Here are 10 examples of how to swap out the products you've been using all winter for warm weather friendly beauty essentials.  With a few easy swaps you'll have everything you need to look marvelous (instead of melted!) all summer long...

1. Swap regular body lotion for lotion with SPF

In the summer time, your lotion should have benefits and by now we know (WE KNOW!) that we should wear our sunscreen!  Try Shiseido Suncreen SPF 35 which glides on like a daily lotion, yet leaves you protected from the sun's damaging rays!

2. Swap pale winter skin for a sun kissed glow

Remember the days when we used to douse ourselves with baby oil to try to get a jump on our summer tan?   Now most of us wouldn't dream of putting tin foil on our album covers to reflect even more rays and bake in the sun all afternoon!  One of our favorite wasy to get a safe tan is with TanTowel Self-Tanning 23 Piece Set with Illuma Glow Body Lotion.  It  gives us that golden sun kissed glow, yet with none of the health risks!

3. Swap foundation for tinted moisturizer

There is nothing worse than sweating off your foundation and having it roll down your face when the heat sets in.  But how do you achieve a flawless finish without your favorite coverage?  No sweat!  With Trish McEvoy BB Cream SPF 35, you will not only have flawless coverage, but you will have antioxidants and SPF also!

4. Swap face powder for blotting sheets for oil control.

Heavy powder and summer sun just don't mix.  Boscia Fashionably Matte Blotting Linens Set takes care of any oily shine on your face, yet leaves your complexion natural and cake free!

5. Swap hairspray for root boosting spray

Crudites should be the only thing that you are crunchy this summer.  Leave the crunch of hairspray in favor of more texture which can be achieved with David Evangelista Air Lift Texture & Lift Root Boost.

6. Swap heat tools for air-drying to minimize damage.

Heat can wreak havoc on your locks and the long summer days don't help.  Try air-drying your hair a couple of days a week for a new look that your hair will thank you for.  Trendy tip: Air-dried hair looks super chic and of the moment when paired with a sleek outfit.

7. Swap lipstick for lip color with SPF.

Just like lotion, lipstick should have its benefits too!  Lancome L'Absolu Lipcolor with SPF 12 ensures a pretty pout with a built in SPF!  Just in case you haven't heard: Wear your sunscreen!

8. Swap powder eyeshadow for eyeshadow cream

For a fresh, smooth look try cream eye shadow instead of powders which can look caky and can become drying around our eye area.  Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color is long lasting and crease-proof, plus it feels like velvet on your lids!

9. Swap volumizing mouse/gel for leave-in conditioner

Forget struggling with big, structured hair this summer!  Swap your usual volumizing gel for Amika Sea Buckthorn Berry Leave-In Cream  which will make your hair soft and manageable and super shiny - Say goodbye to summer helmet hair!

10. Swap regular mascara for water-proof mascara

This could possibly be the most important beauty swap of all.  A girl must have a great mascara like Benefit BADgal Waterproof Mascara to make it through the summer heat and surf flawlessly.  This swap is so simple, you won't even bat a lash!

With a few easy swaps you'll look sensational all summer long.  Let me know what you think and share your summer switcheroos with me, too!
