Fancy Footwork

Ahhhh sandal season :)  Days are longer, sun is warmer and our feet are finally getting a much needed break from boots, shoes and socks.   It's time for our feet to dive into summer so I've done some some fancy footwork and paired some pretty summer sandals with matching polishes.  Kick up your heels with two of my favorite summer accessories and create the perfect pair!

Neons

Nothing says summer quite like a fabulous pair of colorful thong sandals and bright neon nails!  Sam Edelman "GiGi" Neon Thong Sandal is the ultimate in summer footwear, especially when paired with a set of nails painted in Deborah Lippmann's "Between the Sheets & I Know What Boys Like" Mini Lacquer Duo. The hot colors will really pop against summer tanned skin, so get your bright on and show off your pretty neon feet!

Golden Metallics

Let's just say that this little piggy definitely did not stay home!  And you can forget the market too because this little piggy went dancing all night long when it wore The New Black "Golden Ticket" Glimmer Twins 2-piece Lacquer Set.  Pair this polish with a pair of Sam Edelman Leather Wedge Sandals and you'll go "wee wee wee" all the way home!

Turquoise Blend

When watching the tide drift in and out, you will witness the sea's color change from tiffany blue to turquoise to aqua marine.  Artists often have a tough time capturing the beauty of the sea since it is constantly changing and moving.  Lucky for us, famed nail artist, Deborah Lippmann, created Deborah Lippmann "Mermaid's Dream" Nail Lacquer whose flecks of color mimic the vibrance of the sea.  And to make a real splash, these Vince Camuto "Tasha" Platform Wedge Sandals will pair perfectly with your new polish, a gorgeous maxi dress, boyfriend jeans or a cute cuffed short!

Nude

She's got legs and she knows how to dress them!  Light, flesh-toned shoes can create the illusion of longer legs.  Add a nude polish to your toes and get just that extra bit of length that makes legs go on for days!  The colors of the BCBGeneration "Carmyn" Leather and Wood Wedge are neutral, yet fun, making them a summer go-to!  While bright colors and flashy textures are all the rage in nail art, a nude polish like Deborah Lippmann "Prelude to a Kiss" Nail Lacquer looks fresh and chic for summer toes.  Now all you need is to dig out your ZZ Top cassette!

White

White is the the new black for summer, and I am loving white nails!  Pair Vince Camuto "Madith" Jeweled Leather Thong Sandal  with a white skinny, a sleek white top, and lots of gold jewelry! Adorn your nails with Deborah Lippmann "Amazing Grace" Nail Lacquer and how will you look?  The answer is as easy as black and white - stunning!

It's time to take your feet out of hiding get them ready for the summer heat with perfectly pedicured toes and pretty new sandals!  With so many matching sets to choose from, it's hard to pick just one - so help me choose...

Which perfect pair is your favorite?

Colleen's Best Makeup Tips For Women Over 40

If you're over 40 (or over 50 like me!) you've probably discovered that the make up you wore in your 20's and 30's may not be working for you anymore.  The simple truth is, as we get older, we need to change the way we wear make up.  After applying my own make up for television for over 25 years and working with some of the top make up artists, I've found that with the right make up tips and tricks, you can instantly look and feel younger!  Here are a few easy things for you to try: open your eyes, warm things up and bring back the glow...

Open Your Eyes & Fill in Your Brows

Let's start with the eye area - as we get older our eyes not only show age first, but they look smaller.  We also have more puffiness and dark circles to deal with.   One word:  Concealer!  Lately I've been using Serious Skin Care's CC Cream and it works wonders!  It corrects and conceals to give your eye area a smoother, brighter, tighter appearance.  Apply this new cream on the lids and below the eye for an instant wake up.  When it comes to eye make up, Be careful about using grey around your eyes (it magnifies dark circles), it's better to stay with peach, gold and warm browns - these colors will light up your eyes.  For eye liner, don't line your eye all the way around (this will make your eyes look smaller).  Trish McEvoy Brighten and Define Eye Collection has the perfect eye liner, brightener and mascara for defining, brightening and opening up those peepers!

Want an instant eye lift?  Shape and fill in your brows!  YBF Eyebrow Pencil is my go to eye brow pencil and I wouldn't be without it!   For those of us that are eye brow challenged (half of my brows are non existent) - this "miracle" pencil will help you shape, fill in and create the brows (and instant lift) you're looking for!

Our hair gets thinner as we get older, which is why lush, full brows are such a staple of youth. If you have naturally thick brows, all you need is a little power to fill them in. Make sure you choose a share somewhere between the color of your hair color and the color of your brows. Never try to reshape your eyebrows with the powder - you won't fool anyone.

Warm Up

When it comes to aging skin - Bronzer is our friend!  When I apply bronzer, I'm always amazed at how my skin "wakes up".  Start by adding a touch of warm radiance by using the Too Faced 6 Essentials Natural Radiance Face Palette. Warm up the skin with a matte bronzer - avoid bronzers with too much shine. The LORAC "Hot & Spicy" Duo is one of my new favorites. I apply to the forehead, below the cheek bones, and at my jaw line for a sculpted, slimming effect. To continue to warm up the face use warm eyeshadow colors like this Natural Eyeshadow Palette by Too Faced. Add this Vincent Longo Brown Eyeliner Duo on the lower lash line (much for forgiving than black) to create a soft look.   I reserve black eyeliner for the upper lash line to help define the eye and make my lashes look fuller.

Try Something Rosy & Add a Touch of Shine!

Don't be afraid to wear bright lip color or highlighter - just be sure to pick the right ones!  Rich lip color can make you look younger but be sure the color you choose has a pink undertone as it will make your skin look fresher.  Lancome's Roughe in Love is my all time favorite - the perfect shade of red/coral/pink.  Also, learn how to play with light!  Highlighters can bring an instant, youthful glow to your shoulders, decollete and cheekbones. Get glammed up by applying Aura by SWAROVSKI Crystal Touch over your shoulders and bask in the sensual light. Get a double lift by highlighting the cheekbones with Benefit Watt's Up! Highlighter. Using a highlighter will illuminate the cheeks and brings attention to your eyes. When it comes to blush - I apply right on or slightly above the apples of my cheeks - instant perk up!  Be sure that the shimmer in your blush is soft and subtle, Benefit Bella Bamba is my go to! For darker skin, I recommend using a bronzy hue, like Benefit Dallas

There you have it all of you over 40 and Fabulous beauty mavens!  With these tips and tricks you'll look and feel and beautiful as you are - Shine On!

Trade Secrets: HSN Hosts Share Their Beauty "Must Haves"

One of the nice "perks" of being an HSN Host is getting the chance to try the best beauty products available today!  We are often asked what beauty products we use, so I thought it would be fun to ask some of our HSN hosts what their must have beauty product are.  I asked them to choose one "desert island" product - Here are the products our hosts consider their "can't live without" beauty favorites!

Amy Morrison

Beauty maven, Amy Morrison, is the host of Thursday Night Beauty Report and loves sharing the latest in beauty with you.  Here's what Amy had to say about her top beauty pick:

"It's so hard to just pick one...I have so many favorites.  But all in all, my favorite must have desert island beauty product would have to be Trish McEvoy's BB cream.  It's the first BB cream that does everything!  It's an oil free moisturizer with great anti-aging ingredients, a pore minimize, give you a flawless mat finish, it has an amazing spf and most importantly....it covers beautifully.  One pump is all you , so little goes a long way and it lasts all day.  IT's a "MUST HAVE" because it does everything....and it's all in one tube.  No mess, no fuss and it blends into your skin effortlessly.  IT truly is a 6 in 1.....  One product can do it all:)"

Bobbi Ray Carter

Raven haired beauty Bobbi Ray Carter knows a thing or two about ageless beauty!  Here's what Bobbie told me about her Must Have beauty item:

"There are so many products from numerous lines that we sell that I love so i dont think i can pick one so I am going to choose the NoNo! It was one of the best investments to me as I has basically ended my relationship with razors! Easy to use and I find now that I don't remember the last time I had to NoNo! Love that it is a one time purchase that has allowed me to be hair free..particularly for my face!"

 Kathy Wolf

Kathy Wolf has the prettiest big, blue eyes!  To enhance their beauty here's Kathy's must have:

"Mascara!! My lashes are just like my hair darker at the roots and blonde on the tips, without it I look asleep even if I'm wide awake."

 Tamara Hooks

Gorgeous Tamara Hooks never has a bad hair day...check out her favorite beauty item to see how she keeps her tresses looking camera ready!

"My must have 'desert island' beauty choice is Carol's Daughter Monoi Hair Mask. I am crazy about the way it makes my hair moisturized, soft, shiny, healthy-feeling, detangled, and in the overall best condition it's ever been. It helps protect from heat damage and smoothes the cuticle so that my hair 'hangs' nicer. I love the entire Monoi line but the Hair Mask packs all the best benefits of the Monoi plant into one product".

 Michelle Sorro

Lovely Los Angeles Native, Michelle Sorro, has a fresh "California Girl" glow!  Here's how Michelle keeps her skin looking flawless:

"My desert island item is Trish McEvoy's beauty balm. Perfect for summer.. sheer beautiful coverage, primes, hydrates, and has a broad spectrum SPF 35, which helps keep my skin safe. Can't live without! :)"

 Lynn Murphy

Darling Lynn Murphy does not age!  I've known Lynn now for almost 20 years and she doesn't look a day older than when I met her in 1994!  Here's Lynn's beauty secret (she's literally found the fountain of youth):

"Would never be without my Élysée.....especially Fountain of Youth!"

 Alyce Caron

Texas beauty "Alyce from Dallas" had a hard time narrowing her picks down to just one!

"Can't live without Elysee Night Renewal.......Perlier Black Rice products...Lancome Mascara...and anything by Trish McEvoy!"

Diana Perkovic

Diana Perkovic always looks radiant and flawless!  Her favorite beauty product helps keep her looking picture perfect:

"I'm a Total Concealer-aholic! Top Pick:  Benefit's Boi-ing!"

Shivan Sarna

Beautiful Brown Eyed Brunette Shivan Sarna also had trouble narrowing her picks to just one!

"I cannot live without my Lancome Definicils Mascara, my Benefit Posietint and my Elysee Pycnocenol Firming Serium!!!"

Suzanne Runyan

The always effervescent Suzanne Runyon is a busy mom on the go!  Her go to beauty favorite is by Korres:

" I can't live without lip gloss - I hoard it...lol"

Lesley Ann Machado

The stunning Lesley Ann Machado is the third HSN Host to choose Trish McEvoy's Beauty Balm as their top pick!!  This is one I seriously have to try :-)  Here's what Leslie Ann told me about her "must have" pick:

"My favorite these days...Trish McEvoy's Beauty Balm!  This BB product is such a multi tasker for our busy lives!  It primes, gives a bit of coverage, controls oil, nourishes AND HAS BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 35!  It has been my go to product for the past 2 weeks since I first tried it!  And then of course, my Benefit, "They're Real" mascara.  I would need these 2 products wherever, whenever!"

Colleen Lopez

I hope you enjoyed reading about all the host's top beauty picks - I can't wait to try some of them!  It truly is difficult to pick only one favorite, but for me I would have to choose Lancome's Genefique as my number one top pick.  I've been using this anti aging beauty serum every day for over two years.  The appearance of my pores have diminished, my skin tone is even (no more redness) and my skin seems to have a natural glow (even without make up)!  Love this serum :)

Now that we've shared our "can't live without" beauty products with you - Let us know what beauty product is your favorite...

Colleen's Daily Dose

If you watch me on HSN, I'm sure you already know that I'm a big fan of Andrew Lessman Vitamins!  For more than a decade I've been taking Andrew's products and I believe I'm a lot healthier for it!  One of the most frequently asked questions I get is "what vitamins do you take"?  In this blog I want to share my daily vitamin regimen with you.  Please Note:  It's important to check with your doctor before starting a vitamin regimen.  This is what works for me, and I've shared the list of vitamins I take with my own doctor.  We are all different, so what works for me may not be the same for you...

First of all, it's best to take vitamin supplements with food.  Your body will be able to absorb the nutrients better when you take your vitamins with food or meals.  It's also a good idea to take your vitamins early in the day - you will enjoy the benefits more throughout the day when you take them early.  I take most of my vitamins with breakfast and lunch.  Fat soluble vitamins (Vit D3 for example) should be taken with foods that contain some fat.  Here's an example of my daily vitamin routine.

Morning

For breakfast I usually have a protein shake or egg white omelet.  Here are the vitamins I take to start my day:

Vitamin B 12 - The most important B vitamin to supplement and essential for all energy production.

Maximum Omega 3 - For the support of superior heart, brain, eye, and general health.

Co Enzyme  Q 10 - Required for all energy production and must be present in all living cells.

Fibermucill - Easy to swallow dietary fiber that provides a myriad of health benefits.

Healthy Hair Skin and Nails - Promotes the health of the integumentary system:  Hair, skin and nails.

Vitamin D3 - The most important single vitamin to supplement.

Circulation and Vein Support - Supports the challenged circulation in our legs.

Friendly Flora - Probiotics to enhance Friendly Flora and support a healthy digestive system.

Lunch

Lunch for me is usually a salad with lots of veggies and some protein.  Here are the vitamins I take mid day:

Memory Brain and Liver Support - Provides comprehensive natural support for memory and mental activity.

Ultimate Eye Support - Promotes healthy vision and and protects the delicate tissues of the eyes.

Resveratrol - One of the most powerful natural antioxidants.

Maximum Joint Effort - Provides maintenance and repair for healthy joint tissues.

Cinnamon - supports healthy blood sugar balance and glucose metabolism

Dinner

I usually try to eat a light dinner early in the evening - I try not to eat a large meal after 7:00 PM.

In the evening I take Bone and Body Factors - This is a combination product that contains Calcium Magnesium Intensive Care and Women's Wellness - all in one supplement.

I also love to take Breath Plus (amazing breath freshener that works from the inside out) and I  keep Digest Assure on hand in case I eat something that doesn't agree with me!

I think this pretty much covers it!  It may seem like a lot to many of you - but as I said, we're all different, and this is what's been working for me.  Let me know what your favorite Andrew Lessman products are and Cheers to Your Good Health!

Tips and Tools to Refresh Your Makeup Bag for Spring!

It is time for some Spring cleaning and the phrase that is fresh on our minds is, "Out with the old, in with the new"! And by out with the old, we mean old makeup- you know the kind, the kind that you barely wear, yet keep holding on to for  those "just in case" occasions.  How long do you hold on to that lingering makeup for?  Read on for some tips and tricks on how to get your makeup bag together!

Organize

Pick a makeup bag that is easy to organize and can be cleaned easily.

First things first, get a easily organizable makeup bag.   Joy Mangano Paris Chic Quilted Better Beauty Case Set  keeps our beauty necessities in order, gives us space for everything that we need, yet folds into a convenient and cute little case.  We also love the transparent compartments that are also easily removable so that you can just toss one into your purse and go!

Lip Color

Toss it after: Two Years

Why: Gloss and lipstick will start to cake on.

Have you ever talked to someone and noticed their lipstick seemed to cake around their lips?  That may be because of old lipstick.  We say, "Toss It!"  What should you replace it with?  THE color of the season of course!  Lancome's "Miss Coquelicot" Rouge In Love Lipcolor perfectly perfects Spring's tangerine pout.  Now thats' something to smile about!

Mascara

Toss it after: three months

Why: It'll get dry, clumpy and collect bacteria.

Long, lush lashes are every girl's dream, yet who would have guessed that our lashes can be a breeding ground for mites and bacteria.  Since our eye area is so delicate, you should definitely abide by the three month toss rule (or sooner if you begin to notice your mascara is clumpy or has an odor).  If your in the department for a new mascara, then you've got to try Benefit's They're Real Mascara which makes your lashes look so long and lustrous that your friends will think that they're fake!

 Foundation

Toss it after: one to two years

Why: Powder has a lifespan of two years, but liquid and cream formulas will only last up to 12 months after you first open them.

In the world of makeup, few things are worse than ill matching foundation, but foundation that is old is a whole different story!  If you notice the consistency of your foundation has changed or even if the color doesn't match any longer ( maybe you have a spring tan?), then it is time for a new foundation.  We adore Lancome Tient Miracle  which glides onto your skin flawlessly and light, yet covers any imperfections.  We've decided that if Miracle is in the name of foundation, then it has to be good!

Blush/Shadow

Toss it after: One to two years

Why: It will harden and not deposit color as well. Keep cream for one year, powder for up to two.

Eyeshadows and blushes seem to be those makeup products that are kept forever due to the fact that there are just SO many wonderful colors to try!  Throw away any eyeshadow or blush that you rarely wear.  We noticed that, just like jewelry, we tend to wear 20% of our colors, 80% of the time.  That being said, once you streamline your beauty kit, you will be left with only colors that flatter you face!  LORAC Blush/Bronzer Duo with Brush helps us pair down our beauty box with its two in one design, plus it is easy to take with you and universally flattering!

Eyeliner

Toss it After: Three months to three years

Why: Liquid liner should be replaced every three months because it's more susceptible to microbial growth. Pencils last longer, but they will eventually become stiff and not give off as clean of a line. Always sharpen pencils before each use.

Not only does the rigid pencil of an expired eyeliner hurt your eyelid, but the tugging can cause redness and irritation.   Lancome Le Crayon Khol Eyeliner Pencil  is a creamy and smooth eyeliner that glides around your eyes, yet stays put all day long!

Brushes

Brush Care Basics:

-Wash them weekly Use brush cleaner or baby shampoo. Lay them flat to dry.

-Replace them If the hairs of your brush shred and don't hold their shape, it's time to buy a new one. Natural bristles tend to last longer than synthetic ones.

Just like a painter, our makeup brushes are important to create our own work of art!  If you have been using the free brushes that come with some makeup, you will be shocked at how much better your makeup will appear when you invest in a few good brushes.  We think that Japonesque Safari Chic Leopard Brush Set  is the perfect set to get started with, or add to your collection, not to mention, those leopard spots are fantastic!

Our makeup bags are a reflection of our busy lives and once you ditch the dingy makeup and organize your bag, you will end up saving time and looking fabulous!
