A Little Black Dress Magic

Oh, Little Black Dress, how do we love thee?  Let us count the ways:  You always make us look thinner, you look perfect for every occasions (from weddings to funerals), you don't show stains (if we spill a little wine or red sauce) and you look fabulous with jewelry and accessories!  Ever since 1926 when fashion Icon Coco Chanel "invented" the first LBD (at a time when all the other women in Paris were wearing pinks and pastels) the Little Black Dress has become a wardrobe must for all women who want to look and feel Chic.  The big question is:  How do you choose the right Little Black Dress for your figure?  Read on to find out how to work a little black magic by picking the perfect LBD...

If you have an HOURGLASS shape:  Choose a wrap dress!

A wrap dress like Vicky Tiel Faux Suede Wrap Dress will make your waiste look little in your little black dress!  A wrap style dress has a plunging neckline that draws attention to your feminine décolletage, and a tie at the waist, allowing you to cinch in your fierce curves and camouflage those little lumps and bumps that you want to keep secret! Up the ante even more with some accessories!  Colleen Lopez "Sensational 60" Bangles  are timelessly sexy on your arm, especially when paired with RJ Graziano "Status Appeal" Quilted Leather Satchel which adds power to your LBD.  If you really want to complete the "pow", add these Sam Edelman "Okala" Haircalf and Leather Pump!

If you are PETITE: Try a shift dress!

Guiliana Rancic always knows how to look fabulous!  G by Giuliana Rancic Suede Shift Dress is simply beautiful and doesn't swallow your petite frame. With this LBD, you have a blank canvas to add accessories.  Colleen Lopez Labradorite Vermeil "Dream of the Crop" 36" Beaded Necklace is so nice and long and makes your figure look the same.  The worst thing that a petite woman can do is hide behind an overwhelming handbag.  Try Vince Camuto "Gia" Leather Chain-Link Crossbody Bag which is perfect for pairing up with your labradorite necklace.  To add some height with some comfort, try Steven by Steve Madden "Wisty" Wedge Pump.

If you are CURVY: Go for fit-and-flare dress!

Dangerous curves ahead!  If you are curvy, you need to show it off!  Vince Camuto Fit and Flare Dress is fitted up top and then flares out at the hips for a swishy little ohh la la shake!  Add some serious structure to your curvy frame with Colleen Lopez "Mod Revival" Collar Necklace.  Since you have an unmistakably girly figure, try some metal and leather accessories like Foley + Corinna Pebbled Leather "Iron Horse" Tote and the super chic and a little dangerous looking ( in a good way) Steven by Steve Madden "Whisp" Pointed Toe Pump to toughen up you look.

If you are TALL: Pick a waist defining dress!

How do you dress a tall glass of water?  In a waist defining Completely Me by Liz Lange Waist Flattering Ponte Dress! This dress shows off your great gams and breaks up a columnar look with a nipped in waist.  A classic, yet glamourous earring like Colleen Lopez 6.25 ct. Black Spinel Inside//Out Hoop Earrings are the perfect answer for your outfit!  If you want the ultimate pop of color, pop it with Rara Avis by Iris Apfel Printed Haircalf Kisslock Bag this season's hottest color, wine!  Sam Edelman "Morillo" Leather Bootie is fantastic for long legged beauties - it gives you a heel without too much height!

If you have a SMALL BUST: Look for a dress with elegant draping!

An elegantly draped black dress is a stunning look for small busted ladies!  Colleen Lopez "Be Our Guest" Batwing Dress perfectly enhances all of your assets that you like and conceals any areas of concern, plus the batwing style is a timelessly unique addition to this LBD!  A big, chunky necklace like Colleen Lopez "Live Large" Simulated Drusy Statement Necklace is sure grab some envious glances!  Vince Camuto "Horn" Convertible Leather Minaudiére Clutch gives your outfit some lovely texture and unstoppably chic style!  Top it all off with a dance worthy black patent shoe like Vince Camuto "Callea" Patent Leather Mary Jane Pump!

If you have a LARGE BUST: Choose a Peplum Dress with a flattering neckline!

If you are blessed with a large bust, try a peplum little black dress!  Having a peplum flare at the waist, like you do with the Colleen Lopez "Sweetheart" Peplum Dress, allows your chest not to look too large since it looks proportional with your hips.  Add some flowers to your femme fatale look with the sparkly Colleen Lopez Bold Marcasite Flower Ring and the impossibly gorgeous Isabella Fiore "Rose Romance" Leather Clutch  which has a leather rose tassel that adds even more swish to your swagger!  You cannot go wrong with the super tall, yet surprisingly comfortable because of its platform, Jessica Simson "Waleo" Platform Pump!

Now that we have showed you our magic tricks for figuring out which little black dress matches your body you can go anywhere, anytime with anyone confident in the fact that you look spectacular!

Fall 2013 Color Trend Report

Fall 2013: A Palette of Many Moods

This fall, get charismatic with color!  We have taken a color cue from Pantone, the global color authority, and picked some ensembles to match the many moods of the season!  Pantone has partnered with the world's top designers for New York Fashion Week and have given us the inspiration and permission to color our season AMAZING!

Acai & Vivacious

The rich berry hues have us tingling with excitement!  On its own, David Meister 3/4 Sleeve Jersey Dress is simple and chic, yet paired with the fierce Vince Camuto "Cassi" Leather Platform Slingback Sandal and the groovy ECHO Textural Wave Print Scarf you will look as vivacious as the color itself.  Don't stop there, keep this succulent palette moving right up to the eye with Vincent Longo Trio Eyeshadow with Eyeshadow Applicator!

Deep Lichen Green

Chic and earthy, deep lichen green rocks our world this fall!  Iman knows that looking wonderful is just as important as being warm and has given us the IMAN Platinum Rock the Runway Leather Blazer to do just that!  Pair your new jacket with the super slimming Hot in Hollywood Equestrian Ponte Pant to keep the earth tones going.  Vince Camuto Reptile-Print Scarf uses deep lichen green as a textural element with the reptile print.   Me Too "Lennon" Leather Ankle Boot with Hidden Platform completes this outfit and keeps you right on trend with its buckle detail and autumnal color!

Mykonos Blue & Emerald

Even though it is fall, a girl can have a sea of dreams about the Greek Isles.  Speaking of dreams, you will look like one in Colleen Lopez "Twilight" Ombré Dress. Pair your new dress with Vince Camuto "Kendall" Leather Peep-Toe Platform Pump and let Mykonos blue flood the rest of your ardrobe all the way down to your shoes.  Emerald Green makes it debut through your Big Buddha "Hazel" Clutch and ties together your outfit with the sparkly Rara Avis by Iris Apfel Acrylic Bangle Bracelet.

Samba

This fiery and fierce Samba red is sure to make you dance through fall!  Turn up the heat with Vicky Tiel Plush Trench Coat/Dress !  Keep the flame burning with YBF Line, Refine & Shine Lip Trio with Cosmetic Bag which has a lip liner, lipstick, and lipgloss all in this romantic color!  For a more subtle, yet just as stunning, introduction of color, Bali Designs by Robert Manse Silver & Garnet Woven "Dragon's Tail" Bracelet is it!  For the power-packing fashion bunch, consider this Danielle Nicole "Alexa" Croco-Embossed Mini Winged Tote in Samba your new neutral and carry with you everywhere!

 Koi

This vivid and rich color adds a signature to your fall look.  Iman Global Chic "Step into Style" Luxurious Knit Peplum Cardigan     allows you to play with Koi in a big way.  If you want to cleverly display your color, try Ranjana Khan Necklace and RK by Ranjana Khan Clip-on Earrings which are elegant, fun, timeless, and trendy, all wrapped up in one!  Koi also looks incredible on many skin tones.  If you have tan or dark skin and want a gorgeous lip look, try LORAC TANTalizer Lips with Benefits Lip! Gloss Trio

 Linden Green & Turbulence

We love the juxtaposed colors of the bright Linden Green mixed with the moody turbulence.  Pair the deeply dramatic DG2 Chiffon Kimono Duster with Sequin Trim with the Turbulence hued DG2 Jeans to perfect this introspective palette.  Shiseido Cream Eye Color gives lids an unexpected vibrance.  Your love of mystery will abound with Muzé by Gypsy "Spirit of Awakening" Fluorite Earrings which have a one of a kind look and quality that will have your friends asking where you found such a unique find!

Whether you are feeling soft and introspective, or vibrant and full of energy, this season's palette has a hue for your every mood!

OWN the Runway for Fall 2013!

With all of the "oohs" and "ahhs" that come down the runway, there are a whole lot of "?'s" too, as in "How will I were that?", "Where could I where that?", and "How does that work with the rest of my closet?"  Season after season these questions haunt us and when we can't come up with the answers, we miss out on some amazing trends.  For Fall 2013, make the runway your own with these few simple tricks.

Trick #1: Invest in a LRD

Runway:  DKNY Fall 2013   Real Way:  Colleen Lopez Collection

There is a reason that a song was written about a lady wearing this color.  Red is strong, powerful, and completely feminine and the color of the season.  Donna Karan wowed us with the Little Red Dress, and now you can wow everyone else with the Colleen Lopez VIP Dress. This dress can be worn a myriad of ways - with pumps, with boots, or layered under a beautiful vest or coat.  Wear this dress now for an on trend fabulous look and wear it for seasons to come for a new classic in your wardrobe.

Trick #2: Add Shine to Monochrome

Runway:  Phillip Lim Fall 2013   Real Way:  Joan Boyce Fashions

It is time for you to shine in your everyday!  Joan Boyce Foiled Sweater takes the runway trend of monochrome and brings us this exciting look.  This top looks equally fantastic with jeans, a ponte pant, or a skirt for office, evening, or everyday looks!

Trick #3: Dress Up Plaid

Runway:  Victoria Beckham Fall 2013  Real Way:  Hot In Hollywood

Plaids are a fall staple and this season, Victoria Beckham has dressed them up.  Are you craving the pretty in plaid look?  Try Hot in Hollywood "Irresistible" Cape. For a preppy look, where this incredible cape with a great pair of riding pants and tall boots.  For a dressed up look, pair your new cape with a turtleneck sweater and an ankle boot for straight from the runway glam!

Trick #4: Pop a Bold Color

Runway:  Michael Kors Fall 2013   Real Way:  G by Giuliana Rancic

Ahhh, the cool cobalt blue. Black is great by itself yet when popped with a color, it is phenomenal!  G by Giuliana Rancic Ultra Luxe Pencil Skirt will be a fantastic addition to your closet, plus the fit is flattering as anything!  Pair this skirt with a moto jacket and pumps for a super cool look, a la Michael Kors.

Trick #5: Step Inside the Box

Runway:   DKNY Fall 2013    Real Way: G by Giuliana Rancic

Color block continues to be a major trend and we love the way E's Fashion Police Host, Giuliana Rancic, gives us a softer, less boxy way to wear the look with her Ultra Luxe Cascading Jacket. Paired with jeans, slim black pants or a skirt, this cute versatile topper is the perfect way to step out of the box with this must have fall trend!

Trick #6: Dust off the 70s

Runway:  Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2013   Real Way:  Vicky Tiel Collection

Camel brown suedes, and sexy wrap styles have us yearning for the 70's groove all over again.  Vicky Tiel Faux Suede Wrap Dress has us head over heels in love with this look.  Make this dress feel present with an exciting heel like Diane Vn Furstenburg did, or make it your own with an above the knee boot!

Trick #7: Try Texture

Runway:  Sportmax Fall 2013  Real way:  Vicky Tiel

Sometimes we forget that dressing is just as much about feel, as it is look.  Vicky Tiel Tweed Dress with Belt brings a textural element to your wardrobe with the ever loved tweed.  Usually reserved for jackets or pants, this season Sportmax added the surprising element to the dress.  Try this look, with the nipped it waist to keep it super feminine!

Trick #8: Be Worldly

Runway: Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013   Real Way:  Tiana B.

Who doesn't dream of world travel?  Live your dreams in Tiana B. Printed Ponte Dress which shows off a wonderous worldy print like Oscar de La Renta featured.  You could take it the snazzy route by pairing it with spectacular leather boots or make your outfit girly with a colored pump and a tasseled wristlet!

Trick #9: Take on the Peplum

Runway:  Richard Chai Fall 2013  Real Way:  Colleen Lopez Collection

There is a reason that the peplum has been popular for the past few seasons - it is hands down flattering on everyone!  Richard Chai kept the peplum trend strong with his Fall 2013 collection and you can too with Colleen Lopez "Sweetheart" Peplum Dress.  The peplum gives you the eternally sought after hourglass figure and the deep purple color makes you look cool and ready for fall!  Just add a favorite jacket and pointy toe pump or boot for a great day to evening outfit.

Trick #10: Play with Leather

Runway:  Alexander Wang Fall 2013   Real Way:  Colleen Lopez Collection

Whatever the weather, we love leather!  Leather is the ultimate Fall chic.  Bring this this tough girl look into your wardrobe with Colleen Lopez "Luxe in Leather" Jacket & Skirt.  Alexander Wang paired the look with a tall boot and a duffle bag for an edgey, yet feminine vibe.  We also love pairing the leather with an open-toed bootie or a pump for added kick.

Don't be intimidated by the runway trends.  This season is yours and the world is your runway!

Full Figure Flattery: Dangerous Curves Ahead!

With the average American woman a size 14 today, many women are plus size and are looking for tips on how to dress to flatter their fuller figures.  Many of us "born" with major curves have different challenges than our girlfriends who are super slim.   We have heard it for years: "Do this          to look thinner"  "Don't EVER wear this         or you will look like a house!"  Dressing to look slimmer can be so confusing because many of these so-called words of advice contradict each other!  What is a gal to do?  The truth is, curvy bodies can look fabulous in many different trends and styles (and we don't always have to wear black to look thinner!).  We have debunked 10 plus-sized myths and added 10 major tips to get you on your way to looking and feeling fabulous in all of your favorite styles!

Myth #1: Horizontal stripes make you look wider.

Tip: Wear wider stripes with strategically placed lines for maximum figure flattery.

Have you noticed how all of the sudden, horizontal lines seem to be everywhere in fashion?  Well, there is no more reading between the lines of whether or not this will work on your body - it will!  The key is to wear thicker horizontal lines.  Vince Camuto Black & Grey Striped Dress shows us how its done by tricking the eye into breaking the color into segments with the darkest stripes creating the illusion of narrowing your waist, hips and thighs.  The right stripes will look amazing on you - Blur those Lines!

Myth #2: Stilettos are only for stick figures.

Tip: Go for a monochromatic look with darker matching tights and shoes with a slightly wider heal for added support.

Are you tired of being relinquished to wearing flats and wedges all of the time because you feel as though stilettos are out of proportion for your frame?  Walk Tall  (and instantly look 10 pounds thinner) and pick a high heel that isn't too narrow and that has a hidden platform for comfort and support. Try this tip...Wear a pant or tight the same color as your shoes and you'll create a magnificent monochromatic look that gives others the illusion that legs go on for days. Try the Me too "Lexington" Leather and Hair Calf Dress Ankle Bootie  with a great pair of tights of leggings for that long legged look that we all want! Pair this look with tunics or dresses that hit at your lower thigh or right above the knee for an updated look that will slim you down in an instant - Take your look to new heights!

Myth #3: You have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans and leggings.

Tip: Choose a skinny pant with fabric that has extra body and support and thigh slimming details.

No matter what your size, leggings can be tricky to wear, however if you choose a pair with a heavier fabric and spandex for support you'll get a smooth, slim foundation for tops and jackets.  Look for skinnies and leggings with with details on the side by your thighs - this color blocking effect creates the illusion of skinnier thighs.  Iman Platinum Rock the Runway Leather Stripe Ponte Pant have a leather detail that runs down the outside of the leg making your gams look svelt and lean - That's the skinny on skinnies!

Myth #4 Loud prints make you look bigger.

Tip:  Choose medium to large scale prints in tonal colors.

With every other magazine talking about mixing and matching prints, a curvy girl can feel left out thanks to the long held myth that prints make us look bigger.  This just isn't true! The key is to wear a medium to larger scale print and stay clear of small prints that look better on smaller bodies.  Choose a print with flattering print placement in colors that are in the same color family. Slinky Brand 3/4 Sleeve Printed Faux Wrap Dress is the perfect example of this style trick because not only does it have medium/large print, it's printed on the diagonal which tricks the eye into seeing a slenderizing hourglass figure!

Myth #5: Baggier jeans hide your figure flaws.

Tip:  Choose a boyfriend jean paired with a structured shirt and blazer for a chic, slim look.

Baggy jeans don't do any of us any favors , but Boyfriend jeans can be extremely flattering.  Make sure to buy boyfriend jeans rather than a regular cut jeans that is just loose fitting. The way that boyfriend jeans lay on your body make you appear slimmer with the ease in which they are taylored.  Wear a strong shouldered top or a blazer to juxtapose the looser fit of the jeans.  We love DG2 Cropped Jean for there boyfriend cut  and the stripped cuff at the bottom, which turns them into "girlfriend" jeans!

Myth #6: Avoid bright colors

Tip:  Choose bright colors that flatter your hair and skin tones and garments that are sleek and structured.

Be brilliant in bright colors!  There is no reason why you should avoid beautiful bright colors - in fact beautiful brights will light you up and also divert the eye.  The key is to choose tops, jackets and dresses that have a bit more structure, and try to avoid pieces with too much volume.  Bright tops with dark bottoms always flatter and for dresses the Colleen Lopez "VIP" Dress  is stunning choice for a pop of color that looks incredible on a curvy figure!  Pair bright colors with metallic accessories for a head to toe fabulous look!

Myth #7: Sweats make you look large.

Tip: Choose ponte knit pants that feel like sweats but offer style with comfort for day to night versatility.

Many of our mothers engrained in us the phrase, " You never know who you may see".  We always want to look our best, but how do we with the casual lifestyles that we lead on a day to day?  With a ponte pant that can take you from day to night like Joan Boyce Ponte Flare Pants!  Unlike sweats, ponte pants are more form fitted and are easy to dress up with a gorgeous blouse or blazer, yet like sweats, they are completely comfortable and will be a constant go to!

Myth #8 Oversize shirts, baggy tops hide figure flaws.

Tip: Choose a loose fitting top that has a banded waist for a more polished look.

One of the biggest mistakes a curvy girl can make is wearing a top that has no structure. An all over loose fitting top that drops straight from the chest is the fastest way to make yourself look heavier.  Our Colleen Lopez "Paisley Garden" Smocked Blouse is a great example of a loose fitting top that still has structure at the waist and shoulders, making you look spectacular.  With its looser fit, you will not have any clinginess that can reveal unwanted lumps and bumps so you will feel confident no matter what the occasion!

Myth #9 Miniskirts reveal too much

Tip:  Choose a skirt two to three inches above the knee and pair with tights and leggings to look sleek, slimming and chic!

Do you think that miniskirts are reserved only for mini people?  Think again!  Miniskirts are all the rage and you can get in on this trend too, no matter what your size!  G by Giuliana Rancic Distressed Print Flirty Skirt  hits a little above your knee, giving you a miniskirt look without revealing too much.  Simply, pair your new mini with tights and ankle boots for a mini skirt look with maximum Wow!

Myth #10: Dresses must emphasize your waist

Tip:  Choose a dress that draws the eye away from your least flattering areas.

Let's be serious - our bodies should not be defined by the size of our waistline!  Choose a dress that brings the focus to your best assets.  If you have great legs, go for a dress that draws attention to your pretty gams.  Another tip: One of the most feminine areas on a woman is her shoulders making them a perfect choice for every woman to show off!   Try  Colleen Lopez "Hot Date" Cold Shoulder Sweater Dress which showcases a peek-a-boo shoulder (and a nipped in waist that's not too fitted) that will make heads turn and jaws drop simultaneously!

Now the only other hurdle you will have to jump is how to deal with all of the attention that you will receive when you step out of your comfort zone and decide to turn up the heat and embrace those beautiful curves!
